Green light on for DC Baseball Cup

It's all systems go for the 3rd Davao City Baseball Cup on February 23 to 24 at the University of Mindanao Matina Campus.

Yusuke Uchida, Sports Coordinator of the Datu Uchida Development Foundation Inc., told sportswriters on Thursday's Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn that elementary and high school teams are joining the two-day tournament.

Prizes are up for grabs to the winners and the awarding ceremony is on February 25 at the Apo View Hotel.

Competing in the event are the Armed Forces of the Philippines Logistics Command Elementary School, Baguio Central, Bayabas, CB Bangoy, Calinan Central, Catalunan Grande, F.Bustamante, Lt.C.Villafuerte Sr., Mulig, Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai, Riverside, Sta.Ana, Wangan Elementary Schools, Calinan National, Crossing Bayabas National, F.Bustamante National and Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai International High Schools.

Ines Mallari, member of the Uchida Foundation and the Davao City Baseball Association, said that aside from the prizes, the schools will also receive baseball equipment to ensure that they will continue with their training after the tournament sponsored by Tokyo Kichijoji Lions Club of Tokyo, Japan, Japan-Philippines Industry Council with the assistance of the Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai and Honorable Consul Hiroshi Mitsuya.

She said that Yusuke Uchida facilitated the availability of the equipment in Japan then shipped it to Davao City.

DCBA President Joaquin Sarabia said that the baseball community in Davao is very grateful to Datu Tatsuo Uchida for being instrumental in the holding of the tournament for the third straight year.

"Their help really boosted the development of our sport in Davao City," said Sarabia.

Would Yusuke Uchida also field a tertiary baseball team to represent Davao at http://www.baseballphilippines.com Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila?
