Panabo City clinches RRD Pamaskong Handog softball title

Panabo City outrun the Davao City Water District, 7-4 to clinch the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Softball Tournament title, Sunday, at the University of Mindanao Matina campus.

Panabo led by its standout Carmelo Bastida stood their ground and played better defense to beat the Watermen headed by Arnold Sarabia.

The Matina Boys blasted host UM, 6-2 to win the third spot of the tournament presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and supported by City Sports Coordinator Christopher “Bong” Go and Asaphil-Davao.

Councilor Conde Baluran awarded the prizes to the winners.

A simple celebration took place at the residence of the late Judge Edipolo V. Sarabia Sr., the acknowledged godfather of softball and baseball in the region, where the players also celebrated the death anniversary of the former player, coach, supporter of the sport.

The late judge’s wife, Anita, led the family members and players in the ceremony attended also by the staff of the Sports Development Division-City Mayor’s Office.

Matina Boys vs. DCWD, Panabo vs. UM in RRD Softball semis

The Matina Boys will play Davao City Water District at start of the semifinals of the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Softball Tournament on Sunday, December 30, at the UM Matina campus.
Game time is at 8:30 a.m.
Panabo City will meet host UM in the second game at 10 a.m.
The winners will advance to the finals at 3 p.m. after the 1 p.m. game between the losers.
Prizes are up for grabs in the two-night tournament presented by Mayor Duterte with the support of City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go.

4 games set in RRD softball tourney on Friday

Four games are scheduled in the resumption of the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Softball Tournament on Friday, December 28, at the University of Mindanao Matina campus.
Wadab takes on Davao City Water District at 9 a.m., University of Southern Mindanao-Kabacan faces the Matina Boys at 10 a.m., University of Mindanao meets Digos City at 1:30 p.m. and Wadab collides with DCWD at 3 p.m.
The tournament is presented by Mayor Duterte with the support of City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go and Asaphil-Davao Chapter.

Matina Boys edge UM batters, 5-4

The Matina Boys edged the University of Mindanao batters, 5-4 in the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Softball Tournament, Sunday, at the UM Matina field.
The Matina Boys improved to two wins and handed UM its first loss in two games of the tournament presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and supported by City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go.
Digos City leveled its count to 1-1 win-loss card after a 9-3 win over the University of Southern Mindanao-Kabacan which absorbed its second setback.
Panabo City also remained spotless with 2-0 win-loss record after a 13-4 beating of the Davao City Water District.
The Watermen (1-1) bounced back later in the afternoon with a 7-1 win over the winless Wadab Kaulo (0-2).
Games will resume on Sunday.

RRD Pamasko softball tourney resumes on Sunday

University of Mindanao guns for its second win in the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Softball Tournament on Sunday, December 23, at the UM Matina campus.
UM plays the Matina Boys at 9 a.m. The Matina Boys are also hunting for their second victory afatr an 11-2 win over Digos City last weekend.
University of Southern Mindanao from Kabacan meets Digos City at 10 a.m. while Panabo City takes on Davao City Water District at 1:30 p.m. and then Wadab at 3 p.m.
The tournament is presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, supported by City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go and Asaphil-Davao.

RRD Pamaskong Handog softball tourney resumes on Sunday

Softball games of the 2007 Pamaskong Handog ni Mayor Rodrigo Duterte Sportsfest resume on Sunday, December 23, at the University of Mindanao-Matina campus.
Panabo City, 7-3 winner over Wadab on December 16, plays Davao City Water District at 8:30 a.m. while University of Southern Mindanao takes on the Matina Boys, 11-2 conquerer of Digos City, in the second game at 10 a.m.
University of Mindanao, who won over USM on opening day, meets Digos City at 1:30 a.m. and Panabo City faces Wadab at 3 p.m.
The tournament is presented by Mayor Rodrigo Duterte with the support of City Sports Coordinator Christopher "Bong" Go and the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines-Davao Chapter.

Sarabia heads DCBA, to seek PABA affiliation soon

Philippine Amateur Baseball Association (PABA) Regional Director Joaquin “Boy” Sarabia was elected as the first president of the Davao City Baseball Association.
DCBA was formally formed to help in the development of the sport in the city, a move initiated by the Datu Uchida Development Foundation (DUDF).
The Uchida Foundation with the help of its sponsors has bankrolled the past two Davao City Baseball Cup that has drawn 32 little league baseball teams. The third edition is scheduled in February next year.
DUDF Sports Coordinator Yusuke Uchida was elected Vice-President who agreed to have DCBA affiliated with PABA.The affiliation, said Sarabia, will soon be worked out to give Davao City a strong representation in the PABA.Aside from working on local baseball development, DCBA will coordinate with the plans and programs of PABA.
The creation of DCBA will also give representation to all baseball stakeholders in Davao, said Sarabia.
“We will concentrate in Davao City first. After that, we soon hope to become stronger and link with other baseball groups in the region,” said Sarabia, who is also Sports Director of the University of Mindanao that produced outstanding baseball players like Ruel Batuto and Edmer del Socorro, both members of the national team who formed part also of the squad that won a gold medal in the Southeast Asian Games held in Manila.
